** Brett Fund Update **

Scary moment with continued cautious optimism

Brett needs our help now more than ever

The Brett Fund concert was a great time with a feeling of community and everyone was very generous with their time, talent, and money. The unfortunate thing is that very shortly after the concert, Brett suffered a seizure. This was a very scary time with, of course, more hospital and doctor bills.

Brett had a seizure about two weeks ago, and was unconscious and unresponsive when his wife Dawn found him. She called 911, and he had to be taken to the hospital and subsequently admitted. Various blood, heart and vascular tests proved to be very good, which ruled out a stroke. A CT scan and MRI revealed a "walnut sized" lesion in the right frontal lobe of his brain, which caused the seizure. A spinal tap proved negative, but they are still unsure of what the lesion is or its origin.

At this point, since they have no idea what it is, they need to treat it as if it is a tumor, although it does not have the characteristics of a typical tumor. It did not take the dye during the MRI, which is a good thing.  There is a possibility that a lack of oxygen due to the nasal polyps and overall sinus issues may have aggravated the lesion and caused the seizure. They still aren't sure if the lesion is new or has been there for years. One theory is that it has been there, but the lack of oxygen may have caused the seizure. He had a similar episode about three weeks prior. It was nowhere near as severe. He didn't go to the doctor, figuring that it was caused by his breathing difficulties.

The only options at this point are to either watch it (MRIs) or to do a biopsy, which because of the invasive nature, would be a last resort. He is feeling well at this point, but the future is uncertain and is guaranteed to be expensive regardless of the results. Brett is scheduled to have the nasal surgery on June 14.

Please donate anything that you can to the Brett Fund to help our dear friend Brett Hartenbach get through these difficult times. Thanks
